In days gone by, science fiction was considered to be a bit of a nerdy fascination for people that were quite unceremoniously labelled as ‘geeks’. However, the wide appeal of popular sci-fi television programmes such as Dr Who and the rampant success of the recent Star Trek and Star Wars movies has ensured that science fiction is now generously enjoyed by a far more diverse cross-section of society. Furthermore, the growing popularity of the American sit-com ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in the UK also shows that many more people are now firmly embracing how cool a geek-like fascination for sci-fi can be.
To this end, it is clear to see that a science fiction theme would be a great choice for a party. Certainly, the vast number of exotic and elaborate costume choices available is reason enough for having one (Princess Leia in ‘Return of the Jedi’, anyone?). We’re not quite sure what it is about pirates that’s so compelling but we know a good few adults who never grew out of their pirate-loving phase. With the festive season coming soon, throwing a good themed party is on many people’s minds. Going for a traditional Christmas party is fun, but maybe you want to try something different. Bring the sunshine home with a Caribbean themed party. You could use props such as palm trees, maybe even implementing some sand and a blue sky backdrop for that sunny beach look!
