When setting a film or television programme in a particular period, it is important to make sure the whole setting and props used reflect the appropriate period or location. If you have a huge budget, you can close down a street in London, remove the street lighting and populate it with not only correctly dressed people, but also the transport of the period – whether it be some sort of motor car, bicycle or horse drawn carriages.

Of course, not everyone has a huge budget to play with when it comes to props. This means you have to be more circumspect about what you shoot. A lot can be done with clever cuts and editing and some pieces do not need sweeping vistas to work.

It is, though, vitally important that whatever props are seen on camera, they should be completely convincing. At Keeley Hire, we are used to adding to scenes with a whole range of stage props or movie props from an appropriate period or setting.

For example, we have bicycles ranging from 1930’s American to a Penny farthing. We have bicycles for ladies, gents and children. If you want to turn up to a 70’s party, you might want to hire a Chopper from us. If it’s the 80’s you’re trying to evoke, we suggest a Sinclair C5.

At Keeley Hire, we have over half a million props in our purpose built warehousing just outside London. We have been serving the television and film industries, and indeed event planners and the theatre, for over forty years.
